In October 2006，at the opening and celebration ceremony of the 100th Session of Chinese Export Commodities Fair (also known as the "Canton Fair"), Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao announced on behalf of the Chinese government that from the 101st session, Chinese Export Commodities Fair will be renamed China Import and Export Fair.
In October 2008, the Canton Fair entered a new era of development marked by “New Complex, New Phase, New Opportunities”: the Canton Fair was completely moved into the Pazhou Complex, adopting a significant reform of 3 phases in 1 session and operating with a new mechanism, namely, “Governmental Macro Guidance, Local-organized Exhibitors, Coordination among Industries, and Professional Exhibition Management”. The reform turned out to be successful, and since then the Canton Fair stands at a new historic starting point.
The Canton Fair always takes serving China's foreign trade as its responsibility. After 52 years’ development, currently, the Canton Fair has become a comprehensive international trade event in China with the longest history, the largest scale, the most complete exhibit variety, the broadest distribution of buyers, the biggest buyer attendance, and the greatest business turnover, and the soundest credibility, enjoying the reputation of "China's No.1 Fair".
